Title: Adopting a Child From Haiti

Summary:
This articles is talking about how people are wanting to adopted children from Haiti so that they would not be in bad shape. People all around the world are also saying that they could connect  to this type of situation because they have kids themselves. They are saying that they care for them and respect them. Its also 300 adoption every year. They are realizing how the kids in Haiti are sleeping and where they are sleeping.

Reflection:
This type of stuff makes me want to adopt kids myself and i am only 15th years old this is a really sad situation. I can't think of how much suffering they are going through. I wish i can help out and adopt the kids because that is really sad.

Evidence:
“Adoption is not the way to solve absolutely massive, tragic issues of vulnerable children,”

“An earthquake is a traumatizing event. The best thing for these children is to keep them in their communities, with neighbors and relatives, and with food and shelter and safety.”

Question:
Why Can't they adopt every year?

Title: Paperwork Hinders Airlifts of Ill Haitians Children

Summary:
In this article that are talking about how people are being accused of kidnapping if they transport the children without paperwork. 10 Americans were arrested from trying to kip napped children from Haiti. They also was lifting kids and they were very injured. 10 children had died because they had no way of getting to a hospital on time. No pilots are willing to take the childrens to a hospital.

Reflection:
This is up setting because how can let them come to Haiti in the first place and kip nap the childrens. Its sad how they childrens are dieing because nobody are helping them. I think some people really doesnt care about the Haiti childrens because it seem like they do not want to help out that much. Like it said in the summary that the pilot wasnt even willing to take the children so that they can get help so that will not died.

Evidence:

"They're all at risk of dying, and none of these childrens should still be here in
Haiti."

"talking more now about 10 people than they are about one million people suffering in the streets."

Question:

Why Can't they just help Haiti out for a chance?
Do they care that the childrens are dying like this because they won't help?
How come they can not have hosiptals in Haiti so they would not have to travel far?

Title: Fake Food Coupons Spread in Haiti

Summary:
This articles is talking about how people are printing out fake coupons just to get rice. The started giving away emergency food to people with special tickets. Since people were copying tickets they decided to change they ticket colors and put a logo on it so if somebody trys to copy there tickets than the people would know if it was fake. They also said that people started to protest and say stop hoarding food and give it to the residents. The people even said that they have no food to give away.

Reflection:
I think this is so sad because they have to print fake tickets just so they can get rice to eat. I think they should just give the people food so they don't have to worry about getting fake tickets. It's crazy how they won't give away food for free so that people can eat it. They should just give food to them so they do not have to protest just for food to eat that it ashamed.

Evidence:
" The population is hungry, and they are quick to get angry"

"They have been waiting days and days. Rumors are flying. The situation is very fragile."

Question:

Why won't they just give them money or food so they won't strave?
Do they really want the Haitians to die or strave to death?
Are they really acting like nothing is happening in Haiti right now?

Title: Food Distribution Retooled: Americans Arrested

Summary:
The article is talking about how much food they have to give the Haitians. Sometimes they even forget other people or they just failed to reach them. Theey also ran out of food because of how many people their was. They also well allow people to give them free coupons so they can get a 55- pound bag of rice to eat. They all got 709 coupons each dated and signed.

Reflection:
I think this is kind of terrible how they ran out of food so fast because of how many people they have in Haiti that everybody couldn't eat. It's also crazy how the people was suppose to deliver the food to them and thay forgot to do the other people who was waiting to get food. It's preety cool how they are giving free coupons out to them. I think its really nice and i bet they enjoy it to. I think they can help out more because just getting rice everyday is kind of boring i will want something else for a change.

Evidence:
" It's a unique response to a unique situation"

"We need to stabilize the food supply."

"The capability exists, its just a matter of getting all the right people on the chain all lined up."

Question:

Will they keep up doing the free coupons?

What else can they do to bring them more food?

How can they remember to give food to everybody else?

Title: Americans Arrested Haiti Await Charges

Summary:

In this article they are talking about how Americans are coming to Haiti to take children's over the border without proper documentation. The Baptist are getting accused about child abduction and they are saying that they are taking the children from the earthquake. Mr. Puello said that the Americans are being held and haven't been feed in two days. The are saying that they only take children's that are the age of 2 months to 12 years old. Since the earthquake they are saying the goverment has halted all adoptions unless they were in motion before the disaster. They are saying if the childrens are parentless or they are lost than they are very valueable and they can get kipnadded and sold. Some parents are saying that they would consider there children somewhere else even if it meant a better life elsewhere.
Bold
Reflection:

I think that this is a serious situation because this is crazy how they are just coming to Haiti and taking childrens like its the thing to do. This is kind of helpful and kind of bad because i know that since the earthquake did damage that the americans are trying to help out. But they are also just coming to haiti and taking children without asking people anything. If they do take children they should take all ages except for only ages 2 months to 12 years.

Evidence:

"We did not arrest Americans, we arrested kidnappers,"

"If they get charged i don't know how it's going to play out,"

"I am not an orphan"

"The instinct to swoop in and rescue children may be a natural impulse, but it cannot be the solution for the tens of thousands of children left vulnerable by the Haiti earthquake,"

Questions:

What else can they do to help the kids in Haiti?

How can they stop the Americans from coming to Haiti can kidnapping kids?

What other things can they do to help?

Title: "A Deadly Quake in a Seismic Hot Zone"

Summary:

This author is trying to say that there are a lot of things going on in Haiti and that they do not have anything. They are also saying that since the earthquake came that the had lost everything food shop, houses and buildings. The had a lot of things going on in Haiti during the earthquake they had to fight battles against starvation. The places that they had to indeed fight from starving was in the camp grounds there are only little kids that live inside of them but they are in First Grade. When people donate to Haiti only thousands of them get feed and thousands of them starve because there is not enough money for the rest of them.

Reflection:

I think that is indeed a crazy situation because it is ashamed that people in Haiti are really starving like this. I think people can help out more and donate a lot of money so every one can get feed and not die from starvation. People should think about what's happening to these children's and adults and do everything that can do to help out. Americans can try to put their self's into there shoes and see how it feel to be like them. I think they should check up on the kids because they are in little camping grounds not getting feed at all or not even getting baths they are smelling really bad.

Evidence:

"Everyone pays a small amount, 15 gourd," or a little less than 50 cents, said Guerline Dorleen, 30 sitting on a small chair near the bubbling pot. "Before, this kind of meal would cost 50."

"I put salt in the water and it keeps me alive," he said. "It keeps my stomach calm until i can find something else."

Questions:

What can you do to help?

Where are these earthquakes coming from?

How many died from starvation?

Title: “Fighting Starvation, Haitians Share Portions”

Summary:
Many survivors of the Haiti earthquake have very little food to eat, most of the kids have to share with thier familys that they have.It has been seen that there is an estimated almost 2 million Haitians that are need of food indeed.  The majority of the earthquake victims do not digest at least one whole meal to sustain/fulfill themselves from hunger.  The little food that the country once had has been perished thanks to the earthquake, causing prices for cuisine to sky rocket.

Reflection:
This article is very disappointing. This is very crazy how they are letting these little kids starve to death. If i were these people i do not think that i can live without i will probably die because i don't think that i will be able to be away from food that long. People should care because would this type of situation was happening to them they would want someone to help them to. They will be doing the same thing as the people in Haiti are doing by stealing food so they won't starve to death. They should really donate to Haiti because people are dieing just because they do not have any money.

Evidence:

"The communal rationing, along with signs all over the city that say “S O S” and “we need food,” suggests that the food crisis here is growing."

"And food imports — typically 48 percent of the nation’s total food consumption, according to the United Nations — have slowed to a trickle. "

"Children are most likely to return with something to eat, but no matter what is found, or how hungry the forager, everything must be shared."

Questions:

What can people do to help?
Where is the main food source coming from?
How many have already died from starvation?
What kind of food are they eating to survive?
Approximately how many have been killed or injured due to fighting over food?

Title: “Haiti’s Children Adrift in World of Chaos”

Summary:

Since many of their parents have passed or are missing from the earthquake.More than a thousands of children all over Haiti have been abandoned and are left to survive on their own. It has been seen on the news that 45 percent of Haitian children are survivors from the 7.0 magnitude earthquake.Even though the earthquake happened nearly two weeks ago. A lot of the childrens have been in genuinely bad injuries. The UNICEF foundation is trying to search for a monitor for the few kids that are still alive. UNICEF is also trying to set up an adoption agency, so that kids who have no living relatives can find a lovely home.

Reflection:
I feel that this is a really hurtful situation that is happening right now. I think that UNICEF is a really good foundation because its exciting how they are helping the children's find their parents. This is crazy how many kids that had died from the earthquake because the earthquake really hit hard. It's crazy how it just happen like two weeks ago and how many people died from it. I feel really sad of how many people died.

Evidence:

"Haiti’s children, 45 percent of the population, are among the most disoriented and vulnerable of the survivors of the earthquake."

“The children of Haiti, unless they get help, they will have lost their childhoods, their innocence, Elisabeth Delatour Préval, Haiti’s first lady, said Tuesday"

“...A lot of group therapy” would be needed to make the children of Haiti feel safe again."

Questions:

How is UNICEF going to keep the percentage of surviving kids from increasing?
What are some solutions from reducing the amount of kids from getting introduced into Sex trafficking?
Will UNICEF’s database actually do what it’s intended to do?
What are some ways Haitians can find out if any of their relatives or friends survived the earthquake?

Title: “What caused the devastating Haiti Earthquake?”

Summary:

The Caribbean and North American that run through Haiti moved about 20mm. This situation was caused from a lot of damage coming from the two plates. This impact was super close, the force was more stronger than it would be if it was further away from the Earth surface. A different way why the earthquake was so unbelievable is because it lasted about 1 minute to 35 seconds. This isn’t good because a lot of Haiti’s buildings, homes and food markets weren’t built nor designed to uphold an earthquake.

Reflection:

When I heard about the Haiti Earthquake I was sad. I was really focus on the children I was shocked when I seen the little baby's being found under the big buildings. I really wanted to help them out and donate a lot of money for the children’s to get food so they will not starve. It was really crazy how many people died in Haiti and how many people have got found.

Evidence:

“The shaking started on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 4:53 p.m. ET in the Haiti region, just 10 miles southwest of Port-
au-Prince.”

“The threat is not over.”So far we have monitored over 40 aftershocks ranging from 4.5 all the way up to 5.9,"
Bedwell said. About 14 of those aftershocks were magnitude 5.0 or larger. And they expect more in the coming weeks”

“All of these effects get magnified when the infrastructure is shoddy and not built to withstand shaking.”Unfortunately, Haiti has a rather poor economy and not a wonderful building style for earthquake resistance, so we would expect that we would see quite severe and widespread damage from this earthquake," Michael
Blanpeid, associate coordinator for theUSGS Earthquake Hazards Program, said in a podcast released today.”

Questions:

What does magnitude mean?
Where are these two plates located, and what do they look like?
Can or will it happen again?
Has this happened before?
What was response of earthquake to Haiti?
What were the expenses of damage?
Where was the core of the earthquake?

Essential Question: Why was the Haiti earthquake so devastating?

The reason why my partner and I decide to make this particular subject our focal point is because it pretty much will explain why the earthquake turned out the way it did. This subject would give people an overall view that we hope people can perceive further in depth.
